Sexual health is an important element of public health, which includes the possibility of a safe and satisfying sex life, access to information, sex education, and medical services, including diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
According to a 2017 study (Izdebski, 2017), only 10% of the adult population of Poland has been tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime. The vast majority of us have never even considered such a test. The very low level of sex education, stereotypical thinking about sexually transmitted infections (e.g., the belief that you cannot become infected from a regular partner), and, above all, poor access to modern and free diagnostics contribute to the STI epidemic.
Efforts to promote sexual health in Poland, particularly in the context of access to HIV and STI testing, are primarily carried out by non-governmental organizations and a few local government entities. Despite the existence of testing centers and growing awareness, significant barriers remain that limit universal access to diagnosis and prevention. Systemic changes and the continuation and development of local and national prevention programs are key to improving the situation.
